Sir,
Hearing that you are about to raise a Force of Mounted men, I have the honour to
ask if you will kindly put my name down for a Commission. I am just about to
disband my Troop of Natal Light Horse which has been through the Zulu Campaign.
I am a Captain in the Middlesex Yeomanry Cavalry, and have passed the Yeomanry's
Certificate at Aldershot and got a Captain's Certificate and have several
letters which I can forward to you.

I am a nephew of Maj. General Marshall.

I you will kindly send me a line to the "Royal Hotel" I should like to have the
honour of calling on you on my return from D'Urban.

I have the honour to be Sir
