     The Blacks are a sept of the Clan Lamont, whose lands were in Argyllshire. In the year 1685 the Lamonts were defeated by the Clan Campbell who appropriated the lands. Whether this disaster for the Clan Lamont has anything to do with the movements of James BLACK is not known, but it was at this time that he settled in Calla, Carnwath.
