Walter de Winton was born between January 1893 and March 1893 at St George, Hanover Square.1 He was the son of Walter de Winton and Hilda Therese Jane Marshall.
Walter de Winton was a Second Lieutenant, Coldstream Guards in 1914.
Walter died on 6 September 1914; Age 21.2 All Saints Church is alongside the B4530 in the hamlet of Cwmbach between Glasbury village and Boughrood.
Glasbury parish was one of the largest in Wales. So in 1882 a new church, that of All Saints, was erected in memory of the eldest son of the de Winton family of Maesllwch castle, who had just died tragically young. The old parish of Glasbury was then divided to create the present parishes of St. Peter's and of All Saints.
The church building is classically 19th century Victorian in style. A poignant memorial by the altar inside the church is the simple graveside cross of Major Walter de Winton who was killed in action at the battle of the Marne, in France, during the first World War in 1914.
Glasbury being such a large parish was not adequately served by the Anglican church so it became home for a number of non-conformist chapels. The oldest of these, and indeed one of the oldest in Wales, is that of Maesyronen, seen in the sketch above. It was built in 1696-7 and it still retains its 18th and 19th century furnishings.
He was buried at Marne; Number: I. G. I. Bouilly Cross Roads Military Cemetery
Second Lieutenant, Coldstream Guards. Son of Major Walter de Winton and Hylda Terese Jane de Winton, of Maesllwch Castle, Radnorshire.

James Dixon was born circa 1803.
James Dixon married Mary Tirzah Stordy circa 1828. Houghton is a small irregularly-built village, two miles N. by E. of Carlisle. Its township contains 1274 acres, rated at £1795, and in 1831 it had a population of 384 souls. Here are The Knells, a beautiful mansion, the seat of John Dixon, Esq; Houghton Hall, the seat of Peter Jas. Dixon, Esq; and Houghton House, the seat of William Hodgson, Esq., each commanding beautiful views of the vale of Eden and the adjacent country. Near to the village is a neat church, or chapel of ease, built in 1840, chiefly by subscription, of white freestone, from the chalk quarries, near Dalston. It consists of a nave, chancel, and tower, and is capable of seating about 300 persons. John Dixon, Esq. who is the patron, has endowed it with land, yielding £40 a year. The present incumbent is the Rev. John Kitton, M.A. The school, which is contiguous to the church, was rebuilt in 1841, and it is intended to endow it with £25 a year, to be raised by subscription. John Dixon and William Hodgson, Esqrs., are the largest owners of this township. The manor of Houghton and Tarraby was anciently possessed by the Forsters, but was sold to the tenants in 1764.1
