     Elizabeth Longly was also known as Eliza. She was also known as Langley. She was christened on 6 January 1690 at Farnhurst.¹ She was the daughter of Ralph Longly and Mary (?). Elizabeth Langley and William Briant were the subject of a marriage settlement, dated 4 June 1715, made on the marriage of William Briant of Haslemere, co. Surrey, wheelwright, and Elizabeth Langley of Frensham, co. Surrey, spinster.²
     Elizabeth Longly married William Briant, son of John Briant and Martha Jentens, on 6 June 1715 at Haslemere; both of this parish were married at Cichester in Sussex.^3,4
     Elizabeth Langley married William Briant, son of John Briant and Martha Jentens, on 9 June 1715 at Palace Chapel, Chichester.⁵ Elizabeth Longly was New Tag A further settlement is an assignment made 30 April 1747 from Elizabeth Briant and William Briant, her son, to James Dawtrey. on 30 April 1747.²
     Elizabeth died before 1 February 1758. She was buried on 1 February 1758 at Haslemere.⁶

     Robert was baptized on 12 January 1720 at Haslemere. He was the son of William Briant and Elizabeth Longly.
     Robert Briant married Anne Ride, daughter of William Ride and Ann Court, on 16 May 1751 at Haslemere; Robert Bryant and Anne Ride, both of this parish (Haslemere), were married 16 May (1751). It would, however, be interesting to ascertain what description was given (circa 1776) when the closes were purchased by Robert Briant, the owner of the adjoining Scotland, &c. Robert Briant died in 1803, leaving an only daughter, Ann Briant, and she, by will of 1807, devised her Farm and Lands called Scotland and the Hundred Acres to her cousin, Robert Briant; therein presumably including the three closes. At any rate, a William Briant was owner of the "Church Lidden (No.564), as well as Scotland &c., at the time of the Tithe apportionment (1842) and James Mann held both about twenty years later.¹

     Robert died on 1 December 1803 at age 83. He was buried on 9 December 1803 at Haslemere.² His estate was granted probate on 2 March 1804; probably the Farm called "Scotland Farm and the Hundred Acres" devised by Ann Briant to her cousin-german on Robert Briant for life - vz - by will 31 January 1807 [Probate PC Cant 1807]. Ann seems to have inherited the property as part of the Real Estate of her father Robert Briant under his will of 9 November 1803 [Probate ? Court of ? 2 March 1804].

Thomas Marshall and Thomas Eede were New Tag Thomas MARSHALL, son of Thomas M. apprenticed to Thomas EDE of Tillington, Sussex, wheelwright; Common Indenture, 7 yrs from 17 June 1730: £10; date 17 June 1731; duty paid 23 July 1731. on 17 June 1731.²
     He married Mary Briant at Haslemere on 8 December 1743.³
     Thomas died before 23 October 1770 at Godalming. His body was interred on 23 October 1770 at Godalming at St Peter & St Paul.

     Sarah Marshall was baptized on 24 October 1756 at St Peter & St Paul, Godalming. She was the daughter of Thomas Marshall and Mary Briant.
     She married William Withall at St Peter & St Paul, Godalming, on 13 October 1777.¹ She was a witness at Thomas Marshall and Elizabeth Brewer's wedding on 18 August 1782.

     Harry Lawson-Levy 2nd Baron Burnham was born on 18 December 1862. He was the son of Edward Lawson-Levy 1st Baron Burnham and Harriertte Georgiana Webster. As of 1884, Harry Lawson-Levy 2nd Baron Burnham was also known as Harry Lawson Webster.¹
     He attended university at Bailliol College, Oxford University, on 29 January 1891. The entry for his attendance reads: ... "Lawson, Harry Lawson Webster, born in London 18 Dec., 1862; 1s. Edward Levy, bart. BALLIOL, matric 29 Jan 81, aged 18 (from Eton), B.A. '84, M.A. '88 (Honours:- 2 classical mods. '82, 1 History '84); bar-at law, Inner Temple, '91: M.P. west St. Pancras., Nov '85, to July '92, and for Cirencester division of Gloucestershire '93." This is Harry's portrait dated about 1908.

     He attended university at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Mich 1850. The Cambridge University Alumni, 1261-1900 records Charles' attendance at Cambridge as follows:

     In the 1851 census, Charles is living as a lodger while attending school at Cambridge St. Mary the Great in Cambridgeshire.¹ He was listed as the nephew of Henry Marshall in the 1861 census at 147 High St, Godalming. John and Henry are both listed as Solicitors.
Charles is listed as a Barrister.²
     Sir Charles Pontifex married Grace Cooper, daughter of James Cooper Cooper and Mary Ann Pickering, on 2 August 1881 at Tilehurst.³
     Charles died on 27 July 1912 at South Kensington at age 81. Sir Charles Pontifex K.C.I.E.,M.A.Cantab. an outstanding figure of the family in public life & position and in sport.

After schooling at Dr Lord's & Kings College, he entered Trinity College, Cambridge. Univ cricket XI for 3 yrs (1851-53) & was capt in the latter years. Also University tennis player. Good batsman & left hand bowler & frequently played for Gentlemen of Kent & represented All England.

Charles was a cricket player. His first-class span was from 1851-1860 and he played on the Cambridge University major team.

Charles grraduated in 1854, a student of the Inner Temple 21 April 1851, called to the Bar 1 May 1854, a Member of the Indian Council, Puisine Judge of Calcutta 1872-882, Legal Advisor to Secretary of State, in Council for India, 1882-1892.

     Frederick was baptized on 31 August 1827 at St Andrew, Holborn.² As of after 31 August 1827, Frederick Pontifex was also known as Frederic. He was listed as the son of William Pontifex in the 1841 census at Lewisham. William is living on "Independent Means" in Lewisham.³
     He attended university at St John's, Cambridge University, Mich 1846. The Cambridge University Alumni, 1261-1900 records Frederick's attendance at Cambridge as follows:
"Adm. pens. at ST JOHN'S, July 1, 1846. [2nd] s. of William, of Eliot Place, Blackheath, Kent (and Ann, eldest dau. of Robert Bryant Marshall, of Godalming, Surrey). B. Aug. 6, 1827, at St Andrew's, Holborn, London. Matric. Michs. 1846; B.A. 1850; M.A. 1853. Married and had issue. Died Apr. 19, 1898, at Bournemouth. (Eagle, XX. 589; A. P. He was listed as the son of William Pontifex in the 1851 census at St John, Paddington. William and son Frederick are coppersmiths.⁴ He was listed as head of household in the 1871 census at St Martin in the Fields. His occupation is that of Captain of the Militia and recruiter.⁵
     Frederick Pontifex married Blanche Caroline Waddell, daughter of Thomas Waddell and Caroline Williamson, in 1872 at Scarborough.¹
     Frederick Pontifex was a Captain in the 2nd Surrey Militia. He was listed as "a member of the household" in the 1881 census at 60 Parade, Leamington Priors, Leamington. Frederick & Caroline are lodgers. He is an annuitant.⁶ He was listed as head of household in the 1891 census at Holdenhurst. Frederick is living by his own means.⁷
     Frederick died on 19 April 1898 at Bournemouth at age 70.⁸

     
     Grace Cooper was born on 21 August 1850 at Cooper HIll, Clarina; daughter of James C Cooper of Cooper Hill, Limerick, J.P.¹ She was the daughter of James Cooper Cooper and Mary Ann Pickering.
     Grace was baptized on 15 September 1850 at Kilkeedy.¹
     Grace Cooper married Thomas William Gribble on 15 September 1868.¹
     Grace Cooper married Sir Charles Pontifex, son of John Pontifex and Mary Marshall, on 2 August 1881 at Tilehurst.¹
     Grace died in 1928 at Kensington.
     In a newspaper article that appeared in 1928 when Lady Pontifex died, it states that Sir Charles Pontifex was a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and a legal adviser to the Secretary of State for India.
It further states that Grace was one of a large family that was renown for their good looks and was a woman of great charm. Being fond of classical music she at one time belonged to The Magpies choral society.
She enjoyed reading biographies and historical books.²
