We always understood that he did carrying to the goldfields but he must have started farming about Te Houka because I can remember my father telling me about the family shifting from there to Wendon Valley. Grannie, Grandad, Uncle Geordie and Uncle Alex driving down in a wagon and a dray with their goods and driving their stock with them. Aunt Lizzie, Dad and Uncle Tom and Uncle Willie were left behind and came on later by train. That was in 1884 or 1885 because Uncle Bobbie was born in Wendon Valley and the James who live two days was registered at Balclutha. |
